The Winter Hertfordshire Health Walk timetables are now live!  Hertsmere Health Walks Timetable May – August 2026

There are free, weekly walks across Hertmere. All Health Walks are graded, from gentle ‘First Steps’ walks, to more brisk Grade 3 and 4 walks, so there is something for all abilities and fitness levels.

For updates about new walks, subscribe to ‘Walking in Hertfordshire’ or follow us on Facebook.

Between 1 April 2025 and 31 March 2026, we delivered 589 walks in HERTSMERE, with an incredible 7,593 attendances. More importantly, walkers tell us the programme is changing their lives. Twelve months after registering:

  • 70% said they were more physically active
  • 65% felt healthier overall
  • 59% reported feeling more socially connected

These outcomes highlight the powerful role Health Walks play in improving both physical and mental wellbeing.

GP Partner @ Parkbury House Surgery in St Albans, Dr Richard Pile, Lifestyle Medicine Physician and Cardiology Specialist, shared:

“Walking is one of the most effective, accessible and evidence‑based ways to support both physical and mental health—particularly for people living with long‑term conditions or social isolation. TheHertfordshire Health Walks Scheme offers a safe, welcoming and well‑organised way for patients to build regular physical activity into their lives, with added benefits of social connection and growing confidence. I’ve taken part myself and experienced the benefits first‑hand. As a GP and lifestyle medicine physician, I would strongly encourage health and care professionals to refer patients to these walks as a practical, low‑cost intervention that genuinely improves wellbeing.”

We’re delighted to announce that our Summer Health Walks Timetables Hertsmere are now live. Thanks to the commitment of our fantastic volunteers, there are 16 walks available each week—ranging from Gentle Walks for Beginners to Brisk Evening and Weekend Walks for those looking for more of a challenge. There truly is something for everyone.  We are looking forward to welcoming residents on our brand new summer evening walks programme in Aldenham, Borehamwood and Bushey.

To celebrate National Walking Month, we’re also hosting a Mass Health Walk on Wednesday 6 May, with 20 walks taking place across Hertfordshire. It’s a brilliant opportunity for people to try a walk close to home and experience the benefits for themselves.

Please help us spread the word by sharing this information with service users, colleagues, friends, family, and local communities. For regular updates, people can subscribe to Walking in Hertfordshire or follow us on Facebook.

We are also actively recruiting new volunteers. If you know someone who is enthusiastic about walking and giving back to their community, we’d love to hear from them. Our next volunteer training session takes place on Thursday 21 May in Stevenage—please encourage interested individuals to get in touch.
